Croatia hit by two earthquakes in addition to the pandemic

Dr. Aldin Dugonjić, head of the Centre for Halal Quality Certification in Zagreb, told Preporod.info that for them the past year is difficult to compare with anything, because, in addition to the major health crisis whose cause is well known to all, the Republic of Croatia was also struck by two devastating earthquakes.

Following trends in the development of technology and digitalisation, the Centre for Halal Quality Certification is in the final phase of a complete digital transformation of its business processes.

“In addition to certification, we are trying to direct our activities towards better positioning of the economy in the halal market, and as a relevant interlocutor we have participated in all world events on the halal market, where, among other things, we have also promoted the business opportunities of the Croatian economy,” adds Dr. Dugonjić.

Research and increased interest in halal certification show that this segment of the economy is growing despite numerous challenges.

“Regardless of the above, the halal industry and market are continuously growing and developing, as shown by a recently conducted survey among halal-certified manufacturers in Croatia. The data obtained show that demand for halal products remained the same for most manufacturers, while for 14.3 percent of them it increased. Also, the increased number of certification requests indicates that the halal market and the growing demand for halal products have an extremely large potential to influence a faster recovery and further growth of the economy. I believe that the development of the halal industry and tourism, and a more serious step into the halal market, should be one of the strategic goals of the economy of Southeast Europe,” states Dr. Dugonjić.

Last year, Dr. Dugonjić participated in numerous halal gatherings, such as World Halal Day, which was held in Singapore on an online platform, the conference on Islamic economy in Podgorica, and the World Halal Summit in Istanbul.
