Genox – the first producer of halal disinfectants in Croatia
HALAL BUSINESS FORUM
“The Centre for Halal Quality Certification carries out various projects and activities, all with the aim of making the economy and tourism as strong and competitive as possible in one of the largest growing markets. One of these projects is the Halal Business Forum, established to analyze and review the latest global developments and trends in the halal market, as well as to discuss future guidelines with the goal of achieving stronger cooperation and more significant market inclusion through increased trade and guest arrivals, and finding investment opportunities,” Dugonjić announced.
At the Halal Business Forum at the “Westin” hotel in Zagreb on 21 September 2021, eminent panelists and experts will analyze and discuss the latest trends and achieved results in the halal market, as well as proposals for more significant participation in this fast-growing market.
The halal economy is based on Islamic, or rather human, universal values, which is why every crisis is an opportunity for manufacturers and service providers to offer new value to the market through the halal quality system.
After two years of effort and verification, the Croatian company Genox from Velika Gorica has earned an important recognition – the Halal certificate. Genox is Croatia’s largest producer of ecological disinfection and cleaning agents, with 20 years of tradition, and its users include households, retail stores, factories, farms, hospitals, police, civil protection, and more.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the disinfectant business literally exploded, and thanks to the Halal certificate, Genox hopes for increased exports to countries where a Halal certificate is required.
- Alcohol-free production -
“Genox meets all rigorous criteria for a halal product, starting with the fact that it does not contain a single molecule of alcohol. Simply put, we do not use it, and that is our greatest advantage. There are many benefits to this production method. Our products are safe, not explosive or flammable, do not evaporate, and therefore do not require special protective measures in handling,” said molecular biology engineer Marijana Ćiško, who runs this family business in Velika Gorica, in an interview with Anadolu Agency (AA).
Within the halal quality system, they have four product groups: Genox disinfectants, Genoll detergents (degreasers), Kamenko detergents (descalers), and Zuzex detergents (for cleaning and shining glass and smooth surfaces such as plexiglass, etc.).
Each group has several series according to the place of application, so essentially the entire production is certified.
Genox is produced using a special protected Aquagen technology, and the invention is credited to engineer Marijana Ćiško. Buyers from countries with Muslim populations recognized this production advantage early on, and their interest surged during the pandemic.
“I believe the Halal certificate will open many doors that will remain inaccessible to most manufacturers whose disinfectants are mostly alcohol-based. We expect increased exports to regional markets, primarily Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also to more distant ones,” Ćiško announced.
- Opening new markets -
Interest in Genox products is high because such items are lacking on the market, especially programmes that offer comprehensive satisfaction of the needs of a production entity, institution or household.
“Every market that wants top-quality products, designed primarily for the benefit and well-being of people, as well as animals and the environment, and which represent the future of hygiene and health, is our market of interest. All halal markets that nurture and respect the halal standard are now our priority, and we want to make them aware that we exist and that we have a solution for safe and natural hygiene in all areas of human activity and life,” said Ćiško.
After the Bosnia and Herzegovina market, the markets of Turkey, the Middle East, and also the EU are interesting for Genox.
“Turkey is interesting to us as a numerous market with a large population also within the EU; the Middle East is interesting due to conditions in which water, in particular, is a valued resource, and with our products water consumption is reduced by over 60 percent. The safety that a user receives with our programme of eco-products certified to the halal standard is invaluable,” Ćiško emphasized.
- Investment in a new production facility -
The first reactions from customers, distributors and the public to the introduction of the Halal standard are extremely positive.
“The reactions have exceeded our expectations, and we have now realized how valued the Halal certificate is and how much confidence it instills in users that production quality and safety preservation measures for everyone, from workers to users, are being implemented, which makes daily work easier. Our existing customers are very satisfied, especially those who also already have a Halal certificate, and new users for whom this is important will gladly listen to us and accept meetings without hesitation. As we covered the presentation of the Halal certificate in the media, the news spread beyond the borders of Croatia, which makes us very happy, so we are in contact with numerous new markets,” Ćiško concluded.
The TLK Group, of which Genox is a part, has begun building a new factory in the Pleternica Business Zone due to increased demand. The investment is worth around 40 million kuna, and the factory will employ about 30 workers. In the first phase, the production facility will be built, followed by a research laboratory, and finally an administrative building, which will take two to three years.
The Halal certificate was presented to Genox at the end of April by Dr. Aldin Dugonjić, Head of the Centre for Halal Quality Certification at the Islamic Community in Croatia, and chief halal quality auditor Muhamed Mandžić.
- Halal Business Forum in Zagreb this autumn -
Within the European Union, Croatia has the most regulated Halal market thanks to the pioneering work of the Centre for Halal Quality Certification in Zagreb, which operates within the Islamic Community in Croatia.
“According to the latest research, companies in Croatia increase their product exports by one to 50 percent after obtaining the Halal certificate. Taking into account the rapid growth and development of the halal market, our expectations for Genox products are high, but the results also depend on sales and marketing activities in the market,” Dugonjić said.
In ten years of operation, the Centre for Halal Quality Certification has issued over 150 certificates, most for the food industry, followed by the tourism sector and the chemical industry.
