Halal certificate for Melek restaurant.

Rijeka is a city where people of different faiths, nations, cultures, traditions and customs live together. Rijeka always proudly emphasizes that it is a port of diversity.

On Sunday, 27 March 2022, at the Islamic Centre in Rijeka, we once again confirmed this. At a joint gathering, in a beautiful and pleasant setting, representatives of the Islamic Community and the Catholic Church came together. In the mosque, they met the esteemed Mufti Dr. Aziz ef. Hasanović, the Apostolic Nuncio, Mr. Giorgio Lingua, the Archbishop of Rijeka, Mr. Mate Uzinić, Mr. Matija Matičić, Commissioner of the Rijeka Archdiocese for Ecumenism and Dialogue, and representatives of other religious communities. Also present at the meeting were the Mayor of the City of Rijeka, Mr. Marko Filipović, and representatives of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.

It should be noted that the Apostolic Nuncio, Mr. Giorgio Lingua, paid his first visit to the Islamic Centre in Rijeka.

The esteemed Mufti emphasized that the City of Rijeka serves as an example when it comes to living in diversity. The City of Rijeka is a friend to all its citizens, which the Islamic Centre Rijeka also confirms. We gathered at the Islamic Centre Rijeka to once again affirm our shared life, which can serve as an example to all. Ahead of us lies the festive season: Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting, and Easter, the greatest Catholic holiday.

Archbishop Mate Uzinić also emphasized the importance of togetherness and cooperation. He also pointed out that a good deed is always good, regardless of where it comes from. We should support one another in doing good and cooperate jointly for the benefit of us all.

At the end, all guests attended lunch at the newly opened restaurant in the Islamic Centre Rijeka, to which a halal certificate was ceremonially awarded. The halal certificate was presented by the esteemed Mufti in the presence of the Head of the Centre for Halal Quality Certification, Dr. Aldin Dugonjić.
