In Ulcinj, Montenegro—the southernmost town on the Montenegrin coast—a conference on halal tourism titled “Ulcinj: A Destination Where Cultures Meet” was held on 6 May 2022, organized by the Association for the Promotion and Development of Islamic Economy in Montenegro, with the support of the Municipality of Ulcinj.

One of the speakers at the conference was Assistant Professor Dr. Aldin Dugonjić, head of the Halal Quality Certification Centre, who spoke on the topic: “Halal Tourism—An Opportunity for Growth and Development in Southeastern Europe.”

After thanking the organizers for the invitation and congratulating them on the event, Dr. Dugonjić, in his presentation, addressed the definition of halal tourism, the reasons for the dynamic growth of the halal tourism market, and examples of halal tourism development worldwide.

He paid special attention to the development of halal tourism in the region so far, noting that, due to its location, natural beauty, safety, multiculturalism, and other factors—along with an increasing number of hospitality providers holding halal certificates, visa regime liberalization, and targeted promotion in the halal market—the region can attract significantly more guests seeking halal options.

At the end of his talk, he invited all attendees to the Halal Business Forum, to be held on 4–5 October 2022 in Zagreb.
